You also may have noticed, I'm a red haired, freckle-faced character. A "ginger", as some European minded folks like to say... which sounds much better that "carrot top" or "red". I am so glad my family chose to nick name me Rusty.. and not Red. Although.. hmmm... Red Gatenby... not bad. Real close to Reed Gatenby, my youngest boy.. who is blond haired and tan skinned... something I would have LOVED when I was a boy.
Yeah, did not enjoy growing up a red haired, freckle-faced character.
BUT, I never thought I would be a "skin cancer guy" either.
I know, right ? You're like, "come on Rusty... you're fair skinned, hello? Did you honestly think those freckles from youth were not in danger of becoming cancer ?"
And I would answer, um no.
And I would also have to admit, I was living in denial. Blissfully so.
So now I've had three treatments... froze some stuff on my face.. then scraped some stuff off my shoulder.. and now today dug some stuff out of my neck behind my right ear.
They say they got it all.. for now. They also told me.. red haired, freckle- faced characters need to get check ups.. so unfortunately my summer of skin cancer my have more seasons.
I now start my mornings with sun block, which is kinda fun, because it smells like I'm on vacation every day.
And it seems I'm going to become long time friends with my skin doctor.. at least I hope it's a long time.. !!
